Teaching Notes:Table of Shewbread
Exodus 25:23-25 Thou shalt make a table of acacia wood (shittim); two cubits (1 cubit is “) shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make there to a rim of gold round about. And thou shalt make unto it a border of an handbreadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden rim to the border thereof round about.
Understand that our body doesn’t operate independently from our mind. If our mind says we are going to garden our body follows suit. The body moves as the brain dictates. When behavior is exhibited it is your mind that chose that behavior. if the Word of God is not in your heart, the mind searches for a different source from which to springboard. The furnishings are to show us and teach us about the relationship between the heart, mind and soul.
Psalm 23:4-5 In these verses we see that David asks for the Lord to prepare a table before him in the presence of his enemies.
@ Samuel 9: 7-11 Here David tells Mephibosheth (Jonathoan’s son) that he is to now eat continually (not as a guest) at the kings table, as one of the kings sons. This is a time shared and where David would share his wisdom to Mephibosheth. It is where he would Mephibosheth would receive nourishment.
Malachi 1:7 speaks to sitting at the wrong table receiving the wrong nourishment.
1 Corinthians 10: 21 (NIV) …for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers.
table – shulchan
shewbread – lechem haPanim which literally means “Bread of the Presence”
The table carries the bread just as Jesus bears His people. Isaiah 40: 11 “He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom.”
Dining with someone in that time period was a sign of fellowship and peace, so the priests’ eating of the ‘bread in the Presence’ in God’s house signified the Lord was at peace with His people.
