Exodus 30:17-21 Read
Bronze laver – laver, or basin, large bowl on a base filled with water which was located halfway between the brazen altar and Holy Place
Question: Is there a difference between atoning for sins and cleansing oneself before God?
Why a laver to wash every time?
Ephesians 5: 25-27 25. ‘Husbands love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26: that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27: that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and with blemish.’
Hebrews 10:22 ‘…..our bodies washed with pure water.’
A W Tozer: ‘The Bible is a supernatural book and can be understood only by sup0ernatural aid.’
The tabernacle had every detail mandated by God himself. Soloman’s temple was fashioned after the similitude of the tabernacle. The tabernacle had luxurious colors, fine fabrics, designs and metals incorporated into its construct. (booty from Egypt as it were…call it 400 years of back pay) Tabernacle accouterments came from Egypt.
NOTE: Exodus gives instructions that the items inside of the tabernacle (menorah, incense alar, showbread table, are) all were to be made of gold…BUT….everything outside the tnt covering was bronze.
Great copious amounts of bronze were required to fulfill the construction of the different things in both the tabernacle as well as sanctuary.
Does it have meaning that some was bronze and some were gold? Yes
Hebrews 8:5 ‘…who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. for He said “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” ‘
Gold is symbolic of God’s kingship, glory and holiness
Silver is representative of redemp0tion (ie…lives exchanged for silver coins)
Holy places of God’s presence lined and coated and covered with gold. (God’s holiness)
Poles made of wood but covered with gold and rested in silver stands.
us — wood coated in gold -God’s holiness …… because we stand in redemption – silver
There is a clear divide….gold inside and bronze outside. Outside you find the altar on which animals were sacrificed for atonement for sin . The ‘sea’ or laver of pure water was to cleanse and purify.
Priest needed blood then the water . atonement and cleansing from sin
covered and clean
Exodus 40: 11-16
Exodus 30: 19,20
*note….The hands – service, their work, put their hands to….hands cleansed always and daily (Paul said ‘I die daily to the old man.’ 1 Cor 15:31
